Screen Leaders Alumni Focus

Alumni from the Screen Leaders programme have gone on to achieve great success in film, television, animation, games, post production and VFX, sales, distribution, and exhibition.  The Screen Leaders programme is designed for company leaders who wish to grow and expand their business Internationally.

In 2016, Element Pictures production ROOM was nominated for 4 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won a Best Actress Academy Award® for Brie Larson.  In addition, ROOM won a Golden Globe for Best Actress and the Grolsch People’s Choice Award at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), amongst other awards. Their production THE LOBSTER picked up the Jury Prize at the 68th Cannes Film Festival. Yorgos Lanthimos’ THE LOBSTER marks Element Pictures sixth film in official selection at Cannes and its third win. (Screen Leaders Alumnus 2011).

Treasure Entertainments Feature VIVA was one of nine features which advanced to the shortlist round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 88th Academy Awards®. (Screen Leaders Alumnus 2015).

Screen Leader alumnus Brown Bag Films was acquired by 9 Story Media Group  in 2015. Brown Bag Films collaborates with some of the biggest entertainment names, including Disney, Nickelodeon, BBC, Chorion and Silvergate Media. Brown Bag is renowned for its expertise in 3D animation producing four of the top 10 pre-school TV shows that entertain 100m kids around the world.  9 Story Media Group is one of the largest 2D animation studios in North America with a global distribution footprint.  Brown Bag Films’ two founders Cathal Gaffney and Darragh O’Connell continue to lead the company. Paul Young co-founder and chief executive of  Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon was nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year in 2015.  Cartoon Saloon is a twice Academy Award and Bafta-nominated animation film studio.   In addition, Cartoon Saloon announced Angelina Jolie Pitt is to team up with Cartoon Saloon to make the upcoming animated feature film THE BREADWINNER, which will be directed by Nora Twomey, the co-director of the Oscar-nominated film THE SECRET OF KELLS. New Europe Film Sales, sold RAMS by Grimur Hákonarson to over 40 countries worldwide. RAMS won the Prix Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 and has just won the Golden Eye for Best International Feature Film at the 11Sth Zurich Film Festival (Screen Leaders alumnus 2014).

Jam Media the multiple award winning creative production, distribution and licensing company has won a far-reaching crossover commission from both CBBC and CBeebies for LITTLE ROY as well as having THE ROY FILES commissioned from CBBC. In addition they have secured a key broadcast deal with ABC Australia for its new live action/animated series LITTLE ROY (52 x 14’). The broadcaster has picked up exclusive Australian TV rights to the series and will air the show in 2017. (Screen Leader 2012 alumnus).

All Films was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar for their Feature Film TANGERINES. TANGERINES has become one of the most successful films involving Estonian filmmakers, notching up numerous international awards since 2013. (Screen Leader 2012 alumnus)

Garage Films, saw the release of the feature films SOMETHING MUST BREAK and BLOW FLY PARK. SOMETHING MUST BREAK received the Hivos Tiger Award at Rotterdam International Film Festival and BLOW FLY PARK had its world premiere at Stockholm Film Festival and was shortly thereafter awarded the Best Actor prize at Thessaloniki International Film Festival. Wildcard Distribution in partnerships with Altitude Films, distributed the critically acclaimed documentary AMY by Asif Kapadia in Ireland. AMY is one of the highest grossing documentary films ever at the UK and Irish box office. (Screen Leaders 2014 alumnus).

Screen Leaders companies that have been awarded Creative Europe Slate Funding include; Jam Media, Element Pictures, Monster Scripted (Norway), Samson Films, Brown Bag Films, Cartoon Saloon, Allfilm (Estonia), Bionaut (Czech Republic), Atmo (Sweden), Chouchkov Brother (Bulgaria), Gotafilm (Sweden), Garage Film (Sweden).
