Screen Skills Ireland is delighted to support The National Youth Film & Animation School (NYFAS) from Young Irish Filmmakers (YIFM), which will be going online to host 50 young people (16-19 years) who are interested in either filmmaking and animation on five day online courses.
Over the years, the National Youth Film School has attracted young people from all over Ireland, Europe and even the USA for this one-of-a-kind opportunity to work at a professional level on a broadcast quality film production. Many young people have used their work with YIFM as a portfolio piece and gone on to attend film schools such as The National Film School at IADT in Dun Laoghaire.
Online Film Course
The online film course will bring together young filmmakers from all over Ireland and abroad immersing them in the world of film making with online interactive workshops with other young people. Participants will be mentored by industry professionals and take part in studio-based live stream tutorials and Q & A’s with well known professionals in the industry. They will also work collaboratively to produce shorts from their own home.
The course includes script to screen training and mentorship through every step of the filmmaking process; facilitating the students to actively learn the skills and job roles involved in pre production, the shoot and finally edit workflow practices. This unique programme gives students the experience and tools they need to present their work in a portfolio format for college applications or entry into the industry.
Online Animation Course
Young animators will have their own five days of mentorship and training, giving them the opportunity to work and learn from professional animators about the traditional methods involved in the animation process. and how best practise these skills in an online space. With Kilkenny being the hometown of four time Oscar nominated Cartoon Saloon, you never know who might pop in to share their experience, wisdom and expertise.
This is a unique opportunity for young people (16-19yrs) planning a career or college placement in Film, Television and Animation. Interactive workshops in all aspects of filmmaking – from scripting to lighting, production to editing – all with experts in the field.
