Aaron Blaise: Animation Workshops

Screen Skills Ireland are teaming up with Animation Skillnet to bring director, animator, concept artist, and wildlife artist Aaron Blaise to Dublin for a 1 day Animal Drawing & Painting Workshop on Tuesday the 23rd of April and a half day Character Design workshop on Thursday the 25th of April.

Aaron Blaise is an animation feature film director and wildlife artist. For 21 years Aaron worked with Disney helping to create some of the greatest animated films ever made. During that time he worked as an animator or supervising animator on “The Rescuers Down Under”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, “The Lion King”, “Pocahontas”, “Mulan” and more.

In 2003 he was co-director of “Brother Bear” for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film. After “Brother Bear” he helped to develop several projects but ultimately left Disney to pursue an opportunity back home in Florida.

Tuesday 23rdAnimal Drawing & Painting Workshop – 1 day Workshop:

Aaron Blaise will teach his approach to animal drawing & painting. He will explain comparative anatomy, skeletons, muscles, and posing of a variety of animals. He will teach how to draw bears, big cats, and more. In addition, he will explain how to create dramatic poses and have animals that convey emotion & personality. He will also touch on animal movement and locomotion with animation demos.

Thursday 25th Design – Character Design – 1/2 day Workshop

In this workshop Aaron Blaise takes takes you through his approach to creating compelling human and animal characters. Watch as Aaron creates new original images right in front of you and explains his development process. These are the same techniques that he used to develop memorable characters for films such as “Aladdin”, “Mulan”, “The Lion King” and more.

Later, in this workshop you will take all of the skills that you have learned and we will develop a character together.
