The IP Development for Animation masterclass will focus on practical tips, risk management and creative processes to help shape the strategy, tactics and tools that will help you get your original ideas to market. This programme is a collaboration between Screen Skills Ireland, Animation Skillnet and Animation Ireland, with support from the BAI.
This course is offered free of charge to support the Irish creative screen industries impacted by COVID-19.
Week 1 – Getting started is better than being right
Tuesday 7th July, 5pm – Video Lecture – About the development process and risk management.
Wednesday 8th July, 5pm – Alignment Workshop – 3 steps to get everyone on the same page.
Take aways: Core themes of our concept, Northstar and Ref material to guide our choices.
Homework: Write your own 8 beat story outlining the series concept you just heard with the group. Due – 15th July
Week 2 – Don’t sell me something, tell me a story.
Tuesday 14th July, 5pm – Video Lecture – Tips on prototyping and pitching your idea.
Wednesday 15th July, 5pm – ZOOM pitch – Each participant will pitch their idea for our series concept and then we will have a note and note exercise using the MIRO board.
Take aways: How to take your core themes of a concept and build them out into a story.
Homework: Storyboard your own 8 beat story outlining the series concept you just heard with the group. This can be drawn, collage or any other creative way you can think of. Keep it simple and have fun. Due – 22nd July
Week 3 – Turning the lights on
Tuesday 21st July, 5pm – Video lecture – Presentation tips and tools for building slides.
Wednesday 22nd July, 5pm – ZOOM pitch – Each participant will pitch their idea for our series concept and then we will have a note and note exercise using the MIRO board.
Take aways: How to visualise your ideas and communicate them as early and clearly as possible.

This is a course for any independent content creator, creative exec managing teams that are developing IP or for a creator looking to structure their ideas for presentation.
Tech requirements – A good internet connection, Zoom video call app, and MIRO app.
