Screen Skills Ireland is pleased to offer Fundamental Skills for Props Trainees, in partnership with Screen Skillnet. This course is offered free to charge to support the Irish creative screen industries impacted by the ongoing situation with COVID-19.
The purpose of this course is to give learners the basic information needed to successfully continue their employment in the Props Department. This course should be used in conjunction with on the job training and mentoring. The course will be delivered over 3 x four-hour sessions, from 09.30 to 13.30 with a short break.
Session 1 – Scripts.
The first session will start with understanding scripts. How scripts come about from the initial idea through to the Shooting Script. How to break down a script. Recognising information contained within the script. You will use a script from a TV series which will show different elements which will have to be dealt with daily.
Session 2 – The Props Department.
In session this session you will cover the various roles in the Props Dept. You will look at a Prop Room and the basics needed for a safe Prop Room. You will deal with the relationship with the Art Dept and how to will deal with Dressing plans, dressing lists.
Session 3 – Paperwork.
In our third and final session you will deal with the administration side of the department. Schedules, Call sheets, Dressing and Striking schedules. Personnel issues. The course will also cover the use of PPE and Health and Safety. You will examine the working relationships with other departments, set etiquette and the use of power tools. The power tools section with be theoretical and no tools will be used in the session
This course is aimed at Props Trainees currently working in the props department in the Film and TV Drama Sector. The course is also open to New Entrants who wish to work in the Props Department and who have proven interest in this area.
